5 Organization Tips Moving Companies Wish You Knew

Jun 07, 2023

The moving industry is a very profitable one, with companies making around $18 billion in 2022, according to IBISWorld. People move all the time. Here are five things that you can do in terms of organizing to make the job easier for the people who work for moving companies.

1. Color Code Your Moving Boxes

It's one thing to take a marker and write on each box where they go in the new place. You'll find that it can be hard to quickly read them, especially if you use a basic black marker on brown cardboard boxes. Instead, you can get colored labels and assign each color to a room. For example, you could use blue labels for the living room, orange ones for the kitchen, and so forth. Having this would be helpful to both you and the people working at the moving companies.

2. Reduce as Much Clutter as You Can

While the workers from moving companies are used to transporting a lot of boxes and items, you can make it easier for both them and you by getting rid of as many things as you can before they come. That means you can plan yard sales, sell the items online on auction sites, or just donate them to help others. That will help make packing a lot easier and less stressful.

3. Designate Paths for the Movers

When you're packing the boxes, try to place them in designated areas so that the movers will be able to navigate your place and easily move things bit by bit. You don't want to make it an obstacle course for them. Doing your part to keep the process organized should help moving day go more smoothly.

4. Provide a Floorplan for Them

Movers like knowing what they will be seeing when they come to your new place with your items. You can show them which rooms are which and tell them where you want each box to go. This is where color-coded boxes will really come in handy, too.

5. Be Sure to Use the Right Boxes

Don't just get the same boxes for everything. You might need sturdier boxes for heavy objects. That way, the movers won't have to worry about boxes breaking. Additionally, make sure to size the boxes appropriately. Packing many heavy objects in a large box is never a good idea, for example.

Moving takes a lot of preparation from you and the movers you choose to work with. By preparing ahead of time, you can make the moving process easier for everyone involved. Then, it'll be easier for you to enjoy your new place. Are you looking for
